The 22nd Sunday after Pentecost

October 28, 2007

In you, O Lord, I put my trust --
Leave me not helpless in the dust;
Let me not be confounded.
My faith, O Lord,
Must in your Word
Be always firmly grounded.
Oh, listen, Lord, most graciously
And hear my cry, my prayer, my plea;
Make haste for my protection
For woes and fear
Surround me here.
Help me in my affliction.
(Christian Worship 448:1, 2)

The Lord Wrestles with His Children

  1. At times it's down and dirty
    1. What ups and downs did Jacob have in his life?
    2. What do you struggle with that makes some days so down and dirty that God himself seems to be wrestling you?
    3. Why does the Lord wrestle us?
  2. Pin the Almighty with his promises
    1. What promises from the Lord could Jacob hold on to?
    2. How does the Lord bring you all the more to trust his promises for you?
