Give Thanks to the Triune God

Opening Hymn: 610 “Now Thank We All our God”

M: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: (spoken) Amen.

M: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

C: His mercy endures forever.

M: Give thanks to the Father, for he opens his hand and satisfies the desire of every living thing.

C: His mercy endures forever.

M: Give thanks to the Son, for he is the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through him.

C: His mercy endures forever.

M: Give thanks to the Spirit, for he works in us both to will and to do according to God's good pleasure.

C: His mercy endures forever.

M: O blessed Trinity, enlighten our eyes to see, our minds to know, and our hearts to cherish the many and varied blessings you have bestowed on us, your servants. Open our mouths to praise you and move our hands to live in thankfulness for your mercy. In Jesus name we pray.

C: Amen.

C: (sung) Oh, that I had a thousand voices

To praise my God with thousand tongues!

My heart, which in the Lord rejoices,

Would then proclaim in grateful songs

To all, wherever I might be,

What great things God has done for me.

Give Thanks to God the Father

Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (NIV).

Confession of faith:

I believe that God created me and all that exists, and that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my mind and all my abilities.

And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, property and home, spouse and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all I need to keep my body and life. God also preserves me by defending me against all danger, guarding and protecting me from all evil.

All this God does only because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey him.

This is most certainly true.

Hymn of praise:

C: Dear Father, endless praise I render

For soul and body, nobly joined;

I praise you, Guardian kind and tender,

For all the daily joys I find

So richly spread on ev'ry side

And freely for my use supplied.

Give Thanks to God the Son

2 Corinthians 5:14, 15 Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again (NIV).

Confession of faith:

I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as he is risen from death and lives and rules eternally.

This is most certainly true.

Hymn of Praise:

C: I praise you, Savior, whose compassion

Has brought you down to ransom me.

Your pitying heart sought my salvation

You bore the cross triumphantly,

Brought me from bondage full release,

Made me your own, and gave me peace.

Give Thanks to God the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:15-17 You did not receive the spirit of slaves to make you feel afraid again, but you received the spirit of God's adopted children by which we call out, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children, and if children, then heirs, God's heirs, and joint heirs with Christ since we share in His suffering in order that we may also share in His glory (NET).

Confession of faith:

I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him.

But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.

In this Christian church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers.

On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.

This is most certainly true.

Hymn of Praise:

C: Glory and praise, still onward reaching,

Be yours, O Spirit of all grace,

Whose holy pow'r and faithful teaching

Give me among your saints a place.

Whatever good by me is done

Is worked by grace divine alone.

Thanksgiving Prayer

Lord's Prayer

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always.

C: (spoken) Amen.
