The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

June 8, 2008

Prayer:

Lord of the living harvest

That ripens o'er the plain,

Where angels soon will gather

Their sheaves of golden grain,

Accept our hands to labor,

Our hearts to trust and love,

And be with us to hasten

Your kingdom from above.

(CW 559:1)

The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

June 8, 2008

Focus: Jesus brings his harvest home

Order of Worship: The Common Service p. 15

Hymns: 375, 576, 573, 579

God's Word

First Lesson Exodus 19:2-8

God rescued his people out of Egypt and carried them on eagle's wings. He has rescued us from slavery to sin and Satan and brings us into the heavenly harvest.

Psalm 100, p. 104

Rejoice for you are the Lord's people, his flock, his harvest.

Second Lesson Romans 5:6-11

While we were still his enemies, lost sheep, Jesus died for us. Since he has risen from the dead, will he not watch over you to bring you safely into the living harvest of your heavenly home?

Gospel Matthew 9:35-10:8

Jesus sees the spiritual harvest and sends out workers.

Matthew 9:35-10:8

What a Harvest!

  1. See the harvest through Jesus' eyes
    1. What is the Good News of the kingdom?
    2. How did Jesus view those who were without his kingly shepherding?
  2. Pray compassionately
    1. What can you pray for as compassion fills your heart?
  3. Give freely
    1. What have you received free of charge?
    2. What can you freely give to bring in the harvest?
