The Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

July 20, 2008

Your gracious will on earth done

Just as in heav'n around your throne,

That patiently we may obey

Throughout our lives all that you say.

Curb sinful flesh and ev'ry ill

That sets itself against your will.

(CW 410:3)

Matthew 26:39, 42

“Dear Father, Carry Out Your Good and Gracious Will Among Us”

  1. Your will wants to save us from our enemies
    1. What is God's good and gracious will as revealed in the Bible?
    2. How do the enemies try to stop God's will?
  2. Your will wants us to live holy lives
    1. Where does the power to live a holy life come from?
    2. How does all this also help us with our day-to-day decisions?

2nd Quarter Voters' Meeting Notes

Pastor: The full report is available in the narthex. Average attendance for the 2nd quarter was 69. Leonard Schaefer's family chose to use his memorial for the new hymnal supplement electronic version, organist edition, and yearly license, for large-print Bibles, and for anything else that would help us share God's Word here.

Elders: The elders are meeting regularly to go through an elders' training manual.

Treasurer: The full report is available in the narthex. The June 30 balances were: General Fund = $3,452.56; Improvement Fund = $88.17. We have sent $4,542.50 to WELS toward our annual mission goal of $10,000.

Trustees: The trustees are looking at repainting a portion of the church exterior and redoing the shrubbery in the front of the church.

New Business:

The voters approved that WELS organist Charlie Bonow lead us in Sunday morning worship on August 31. The service time will be 10:30am with a potluck to follow. The freewill offering at the potluck will be to pay for redoing the shrubbery in the front of the church.

Kevin Zeltwanger will ask someone to take a look at the dishwasher in the parsonage. If it can't be repaired for under $100, then it will be replaced.

The voters authorized the pastor to distribute the information and envelopes for the WELS Jubilee offering. The primary focus will come in Nov. and Dec.

The next quarterly meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 12 after worship. We closed with prayer.

Heavenly Father, we prayer for your peace and comfort for the family of Ken Toop. Be with them in this time of grief. Assure them that you work all things for good of your people. All who die trusting in your Son, Jesus Christ, as their Savior inherit eternal life in the glory of heaven. Lead each of us to live every day of our lives ready for our heavenly home.
