The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

August 3, 2008

Prayer:

Forgive our sins, Lord, we implore,

That they may trouble us no more;

We, too, will gladly those forgivene

Who hurt us by the way they live.

Help us in our community

To serve each other willingly.

Colossians 3:13

Dear Father, Your Forgiveness
Cancels My Debt

  1. My debt is so great, but your forgiveness is greater
    1. Why is our debt so serious?
    2. Why do you believe with all confidence that such a serious debt has been forgiven?
    3. Why does Jesus teach us to keep on praying for forgiveness?
  2. Help me forgive others
    1. What reaction does God's forgiveness cause in us?
    2. How can I forgive when someone hurts me so deeply?

Lord's Supper

At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of “close communion,” since the Bible teaches that communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree in all that the Bible teaches. Therefore, we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of our church body and of those churches which have declared fellowship with us. If you have further questions about this, please talk with the pastor.
