The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

August 24, 2008

Amen, that is, it shall be so.

Make strong our faith that we may know

That we may doubt not but believe

What here we ask we shall receive.

Thus in your name and at your Word

We say, “Amen, Oh, hear us, Lord!” (CW 410:9)

Worship Service Concert: Next Sunday during our morning worship service (10:30), organist Charles Bonow will present his new worship service concert, "Here We Stand." This service will begin with a devotion based on the Word of God followed by Scripture readings entwined with organ solos and congregational singing of our well-loved hymns of faith. Please plan to attend.

Charles Bonow, a former parish pastor in our Wisconsin Synod, now has as his ministry the presentation of his service concerts in our churches each Sunday in all parts of our country. The presentation of these service concerts is Charles Bonow's life's work and the means of support for himself and his family. A freewill offering for the Bonow family will be received following the service.

John 14:13, 14

Dear Father,We Are Certain
that You Hear and Answer

  1. We build our certainty on Jesus' name
    1. What is the foundation of our certainty?
    2. What does it mean to pray in Jesus' name?
    3. How does the word "kingdom" remind us of Jesus' name?
  2. Our certainty glorifies Jesus' name
    1. What does it mean to glorify God?
    2. What must we guard our hearts against?
    3. What promises can you name and claim so that God is glorified?

Prayers: We pray for our Lord to watch over Jim Riley, the father of Mary Bitter, during his surgery this week. We ask the Lord's blessings on Great Plains Lutheran High School of Watertown, SD, as they begin another school year tomorrow. We pray for the Lord's blessing on our fields, trusting his promise to take care of us.

Lodging: If anyone can provide lodging for Mr. Bonow on Saturday night, please let pastor know. All he needs is a bed ir couch to sleep on. He'll bring his own sleeping bag.

Potluck: After worship on August 31 we will have a potluck. The free will offering from the potluck will be used to replace the overgrown shrubbery in the front of the church. We will ask Thrivent for supplement funds.
