The Second Sunday of End Times:
Last Judgment November 9, 2008

November 9, 2008

O Christ, you died, and yet you live;

To me account your merit,

My pardon seal, my sins forgive,

And cleanse me by your Spirit.

Beneath your cross I view the day

When heav'n and earth shall pass away,

And thus prepare to meet you. (CW 208:1)

The Second Sunday of End Times:

God's Word

First Lesson Daniel 7:9, 10

What an astonishing sight Daniel describes! The shock and awe of Judgment Day will surpass anything we could ever imagine.

Psalm 90, p. 99

Let us number our days aright, living for our Lord.

Second Lesson 1 Thessalonains 5:1-11

Judgment Day will come unexpectedly. Live each moment with your faith wide awake, eagerly anticipating the coming of your Savior. He died for you so that you may live with him forever.

Gospel Matthew 25:31-46

Judgment Day is a day of wrath and mourning for all who have not served Jesus in faith. But for us who live by faith, what joy when Jesus says, "Come take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you."

Daniel 7:9, 10

How Awesome the Reign
of the Ancient of Days

  1. He rules all history for his people
    1. How does the vision show the changeable affairs of the world and the trouble for God's people?
    2. What great truth comforts our hearts as we see the Ancient of Days seated on the throne?
  2. He judges justly according to the books
    1. What terror does God's just judgment bring?
    2. What does faith plead so that we can rejoice at God's just judgment?
