Prayer:

Ah, dearest Jesus, holy Child,

Prepare a bed, soft, undefiled

Within my heart, made clean and new,

A quiet chamber kept for you. (CW 38:13)

Call to Worship

P: In the name of the Father,

C: Whose love sent his only-begotten Son,

P: In the name of the Son,

C: Who humbled himself to save us sinners,

P; In the name of the Holy Spirit,

C: Who opens our eyes to see the Christ-child,

P: Grace and peace be with you.

C: And also with you.

Be Seated

P: As we kneel before the Christ-child, we see the filth of our own sins. It is right and fitting, therefore, that we confess our sins as we come to worship him tonight. For the Father sent Jesus on the mission to take away the sins of the world.

C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess all my sins to you, those that I know and those that I am unaware of. I began life empty of all good, filled with evil desires, deserving death and damnation. I have failed to do the good you command and have done the evil you forbid. Sin corrupts my thoughts, words, actions, and attitudes. I have justly earned your death sentence of torture in hell. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, my Savior, have mercy on me.

P: Peace be with you, for your sins are forgiven. God's own Son took our flesh and blood to carry your sins to the cross. His perfect life from womb to tomb counts as your record before God. His holy blood shed on the cross washes you clean. He was born to take your place as the sacrifice that ransoms you. As your risen and living Savior, he says to you, “Peace be with you. Your sins are forgiven.”

C: Amen.

P: In the peace of forgiveness let us praise the Lord as we sing this hymn of joy:
