The Fifth Sunday of Easter

May 10, 2009

O Lord, bestow on us your grace,

With blessings rich provide us,

And let the brightness of your face

To life eternal guide us

That we your saving health may know,

Your gracious will and pleasure,

And also to the heathen show

Christ's riches without measure

And unto you convert them.

(CW 574:1 - altered)

The Fifth Sunday of Easter

May 10, 2009

Focus: Easter fruit connects others to Jesus

Order of Worship: Service of Word, p. 26

Hymns: Hymn Sing, 168, 154, 562

God's Word

First Lesson: Acts 8:26-40

Philip connects the Ethiopian to Jesus by showing him what Jesus has done to save us.

Psalm 67, p. 91

God's blessings flow to us from Jesus through his Word.

Second Lesson: 1 John 3:18-24

Through faith in Jesus, we are connected to him. He nourishes us so that our faith's confidence rests on him and produces the fruit of love in our lives, showing genuine concern for others.

Gospel: John 15:1-8

As his word remains in us, we remain connected to the Vine. And connected to the Vine, we produce fruit, especially as we share him with others.

Acts 8:26-40

How Can I Share My Faith?

  1. Go around the roadblocks
    1. What makes you hesitate in sharing your faith?
  2. Glow with genuine concern
    1. To whom can you shine with Christian love?
  3. Show them Jesus, crucified for them and risen
    1. In your own words, write down what you could say to show someone Jesus.
  4. Know that the outcome is in God's hands
