The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 19, 2009

Speak, O Savior; I am list'ning.

As a servant to his lord.

Let me show respect and honor

To your holy, precious Word,

That each day, my whole life through,

I may serve and follow you.

Let your Word e'er be my pleasure

And my heart's most precious treasure.

(Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 283:1)

News & Notes

Pictures: We need pictures from the past year of church events, activities, and people for the fair booth display and the web page. If you have pictures we could use, please lend a copy to Pastor Bitter to scan, or email a copy to him.

Synod Convention: The synod convention will be July 27-31 at Saginaw, Michigan. Doug Nelson is one of the lay delegates who will be attending. Please keep Doug and the other delegates in your prayers as they use their Christian judgment to plan out the direction of our synod for the next two years and beyond.

Summer Serving: Anyone who would like to serve refreshments after the Sunday morning service please sign up in the narthex.

Notes from the Quarterly Meeting (July 12):

The meeting opened with prayer. The voters welcomed our youth confirmands: Rachel Gray, Courtney Greiner, Evan Nelson, Seth Nelson, as communicant members. Alex Nelson's transfer to Bethel Lutheran, Sioux Falls, SD, was approved. Jerry and Carol Logan were released by their request.

The Pastor's and Treasurer's reports are available in the narthex. The treasurer noted that at the end of June we were a little over half way to our $10,000 commitment for WELS congregational mission offering. He also pointed out that the General Fund would be about $2000 dollars in the red by July 15.

The voters approved Pastor's tentative vacation plans for Aug. 31 -- Sept. 7. Due to these plans the last Wednesday night service would be August 26 and the Sunday morning worship time would change back to 10:30am starting September 6.

The voters approved the start of Sunday school for September 13 at 9:15am.

We're planning on a joint fair booth with St. Paul's of Morris from August 12-16. We will need volunteers to sit at the booth.

The voters tabled discussion about a congregational picture directory for 2010 in order to get some feed back from the members.

The voters approved reimbursing Barry & Sandy Nelson for the mileage for taking the youth to the WELS youth Rally in Ames, IA.

The next quarterly meeting is tentatively scheduled for after church on October 11. The council will meet August 10, 2009 at 8:00pm. The elders will meet at 7:00pm that night.

The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.
