First Lesson: Genesis 2:18-24

God begins the family as he brings Adam and Eve together as husband and wife.

Psalm 139b, p. 117

God has formed each one of us, placing us in our families.

Second Lesson: Hebrews 2:9-11

Jesus brought us into God's family by becoming our Brother to pay for our sins though his suffering.

Gospel: Mark 10:2-16

Jesus protects God's gift of family as he warns against divorce and shows what a blessing children are.

  2. Describe God's attitude:
  3. toward divorce,
  4. toward sexual relations outside of marriage, and
  5. toward lust in the heart.
  6. Where alone does true comfort and peace come from?

Mission "Soldier" Project: The Youth Group will be sharing God's love by sending Michael Hoffman and his unit a care package in Oct., Nov., Jan., Feb., Mar., Apr. and May. If you would like to donate items (ideas posted in the narthex), letters and/or money, please give to Leah Nelson.

Quarterly Meeting: The 3rd Quarter Voters' Meeting will be today, October 11, after service. Some items on the agenda include: 1) Twice a month communion (1st and 3rd Sundays); 2) Congregational pictorial directory; 3) Pastor's health insurance for 2010; 4) Property and liability insurance for the church; 5) Thanksgiving service (last year it was on Wednesday at 7:30pm with a light supper from 6:00-7:00); 6) Christmas Eve and Day services (last year Christmas Eve was 7:00pm and Christmas Day was 10:00am).

Mission Festival: We'll celebrate Mission Festival next Sunday, October 18, with a potluck following the service.

Area Reformation Service: Trinity of Johnson invites us to join them for an area Reformation Service on November 1 at 4:30pm. The theme is: Touchstones of the Reformation: Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Scripture Alone. A light supper will follow.
