Prayer:

Savior, shine in all your glory

On the nations near and far;

From the highways and the byways

Call them forth, O Morning Star.

Guide them whom your grace has chosen

Out of Satan's dreadful thrall

To the mansions of your Father --

There is room for sinners all. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 577:4)

Quarterly Meeting Notes:

The third quarter voters' meeting for St. John's opened with prayer on October 11, 2009.

The transfer of Kyle Roth to Resurrection, Verona, WI, was approved.

The pastor's and treasurer's reports are available in the narthex. The General Fund ended September at a negative $472.32. For the first three quarters of the year we've submitted $7,177.25 toward our mission commitment of $10,000.

The trustees reported plans to replace two windows in the parsonage for energy efficiency. A rotting tree near the entrance of the church is also slated to be taken down.

Doug Nelson reported on his time as a delegate at synod convention and encouraged us to remember the work of the synod as they seek to continue doing the Lord's work even during these financially difficult times.

For new business the voters took the following actions:

Twice a month communion (1st and 3rd Sundays) was approved to start in November.

The congregation will look into doing a pictorial directory in 2010. Anyone interested in organizing or helping with this should contact Pastor Bitter.

The property and liability insurance for the church will be reevaluated and bids from Church Mutual as well as from Grinnell Mutual through Rentz Agency in Morris will be considered. Duane Hausmann is our contact man.

A health insurance plan similar to the current coverage was approved for Pastor Bitter and his children for 2010. The premium will begin at $481 / month.

The Thanksgiving Service will be Wednesday evening at 7:30pm with a light supper served from 6:00 -- 7:00pm.

Christmas Eve service. There was discussion about moving the service time from 7:00pm to 6:30pm. An earlier time would allow families with young children more time after the service at home before it got too late. But there was concern that an earlier time might make it too much of a rush for families to get from work, to supper, to church. So the voters wanted a survey of the congregation taken and then let the council set the time.

Christmas Day service will be at 10:00am.

A donation of a tapestry was accepted.

The next regular voters' meeting will be the annual meeting in January, tentatively scheduled for January 10. The council will meet on Sunday, November 15, at 7:00pm.
