The Third Sunday in Lent
March 27, 2011
Lord Jesus Christ, you set us free --
Accept our thanks eternally!
Forgiven through your precious blood,
We now are reconciled to God. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 123:1)
Worship Focus: Jesus shines into our blindness
Order of Worship: The Common Service, p. 15
Hymns: 106, 343, 420, 112
First Lesson: Isaiah 42:14-21
For a long time God revealed only parts of his saving plan. But soon he would put it into action. The labor pains were coming. In Jesus the promise of the ages was fulfilled. But so many who should have known better were blind as it happened.
Psalm 27, page 75
Jesus is our light and our salvation.
Second Lesson: Ephesians 5:8-14
We have seen the light of Jesus shining in his Word. In him we are children of the light, living lives that produce the fruit of the light.
Gospel: John 9:1-7
Jesus brings sight to a man born blind and brings light to his heart as well.
The council meeting began with prayer after service on March 13, 2011. The timer for the outside cross had been replaced and the water heater had been installed in the parsonage. The council thought that continuing the annual outdoor worship service sometime in the summer with St. Paul's of Morris was a good idea.
The following recommendation will be made to the voters: 1) Confirmation on May 8 with examination the Sunday before. 2) Sunday worship time at 9:00am during the summer (like last year) and Wednesday evening worship at 7:00pm.
The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.
Quarterly Voters' Meeting: The Quarterly Voters' Meeting is scheduled for April 10, 2011, following the worship service.
WELS Delegate: We need a voting member to serve as the congregational delegate to the Crow River Conference pre-convention meeting on Tuesday, June 21, starting at 9:30am at Emmanuel, Huthchinson. If anyone is interested, please speak with Pastor Bitter or volunteer at the Quarterly Voters' Meeting.
March ushers: Duane Hausmann (capt.), Tom Mohr, Harvey Flaten, Doug Nelson, Ryan Flaten
March cleaners: Barry & Sandy Nelson; Chuck & Lisa Nelson
Today's Greeter: Rachel Gray, Ryan Gray
