The Fourth Sunday in Lent

April 3, 2011

Lord, on you I cast my burden -- Sink it in the depths below! Let me know your gracious pardon; Wash me, make me white as snow. Let your Spirit leave me never; Make me only yours forever. Amen. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 302:4)

The Fourth Sunday in Lent

April 3, 2011

Worship Focus: Repentant hearts humbly serve

Order of Worship: Service of Word and Sacrament, p. 26

Hymns: 124, 486, 304, 108

God's Word

First Lesson: Hosea 5:15-6:3

Are these words of humble repentance or not?

Psalm 42-43, page 82

Seek the Lord as your only hope.

Second Lesson: Romans 8:1-10

When we are in Christ, our sins cannot condemn us. How this changes the way we live. We no longer follow our sinful flesh. Rather we live according to the Spirit.

Gospel: Matthew 20:17-28

Jesus came to serve. He gave his life as the ransom for all sinners. What service! Just as he served us, so also let us humbly serve one another.

Hosea 5:15-6:6

How the Lord Longs for Our Repentant Faithfulness!

  1. Not only with right words and sacrifices
  2. But earnestly seeking to know him and his love more and more

Lord's Supper

At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of “close communion,” since the Bible teaches that communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree in all that the Bible teaches. Therefore, we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of our church body and of those churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions about this, please talk with the pastor.
