Pentecost 1: The Holy Trinity

June 19, 2011

Prayer:

Triune God, oh, be our stay And let us perish never! Cleanse us from our sins, we pray, And grant us life forever. Keep us from the evil one; Uphold our faith most holy; Grant us to trust you solely With humble hearts and lowly. Let us put God's armor on, With all true Christians running Our heav'nly race and shunning The devil's wiles and cunning. Amen, amen! This be done; So sing we, Alleluia! (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 192)

News & Notes

VBS: Come to the “One-of-a-Kind” Zoo for Vacation Bible School. Invite you friends and neighbors. It's for all from the age of three to those entering 6th grade. The Zoo will be open from Monday, July 11, to Friday, July 15, from 10:00am to noon.
Invitations for you to share will be available after church next week. If you're willing to help out in some way, please tell Pastor Bitter.

Rely for Life Luminarias: If you are planning to purchase a luminaria for the American Cancer Society's Rely for Life event on July 15, could the VBS children decorate it for you? We would like to encourage the children this year to think about helping others in Christian love. Decorating the luminarias would give an opportunity to think about those who suffer from cancer and other illnesses. So if you were going to purchase a luminaria anyway, we'd be happy to decorate it for you. For more information or to make arrangements, please contact Bridget Joos 392-7426. She will be available after church next Sunday to take orders or answer questions.

Parade Float: Many hands make light work. If you can help put the church float together, please come to Bridget and Shane Joos (767 6th St) on Thursday, June 30, anytime between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

June ushers: Don Spencer (capt.), Jeff Flaten, Chuck Nelson, Evan Nelson, Kevin Zeltwanger

June cleaners: Harvey & May Flaten, Jeff & Christa Flaten

News & Notes (cont.)

Fair Booth: We want to see if we have enough volunteers for the fair booth this year. If you think you could help, please sign up on the sheet with a guess at the number of hours you could work. This is not a commitment to any specific day or time. We just want to see whose willing to help out. Sign up as soon as possible, so that we know we have enough help. If not, we may not have a booth this year. As the fair comes closer, we'll work out the specific times that fit your schedule.

Council Notes:

The council meeting opened with prayer June 12, 2011, with six members present. Pastor reported on the upcoming events of VBS (July 11-16), the youth rally (July 21-23), and the joint outdoor service at Pomme de Terre (August 21).

The treasurer's report showed a balance of $1091 in the General Fund as of May 31. The balance had fallen almost $1000 from the beginning of the month (May offerings were $4596 and May expenses were $5488). The Mission offering for May was $410, bringing the year-to-date total up to $3440.75. Our annual commitment is $8000 which breaks down to $667 per month.

The Trustees discussed the Hazard Identification Report from the insurance company and will continue to work on it.

Under new business the council decided not to sell any of the small wooden chairs since we may still need the ones we have. A budget of up to $265 was approved for VBS this year. The council approved Pastor Bitter participating in the new Pastor Partner program in which he will mentor the new graduate from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary who was assigned to Balaton, MN.

The quarterly voters' meeting is scheduled for July 10, 2011, after the Sunday morning service. The next council meeting is schedule for August 14, 2011, at 10:00am.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord's Prayer.
