The Second Sunday after Pentecost

June 26, 2011

Worship Focus: Preserve your truth, O Savior

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 382, 190, 289

God's Word

First Lesson: Deuteronomy 11:18-21, 26-38

Jesus preserves his truth as we keep his Word in front of our eyes and pass it on to our children.

Psalm 78, p. 95

Teach the next generation God's word of truth.

Second Lesson: Romans 3:21-25, 27, 28

What a summary of the Gospel this passage is! This is the heart and core of what we pass on to the next generation. This is the truth that we implore our Savior to preserve.

Gospel: Matthew 7:15-29

Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with vivid pictures that warn us to watch out for false doctrine and instead build on the rock-solid foundation of God's truth. Build your life on God's truth by both hearing his Word and putting it into practice. That's how Jesus answers our prayer to preserve his truth.

Matthew 7:15-29

“Practice My Truth”

  1. Don't believe the false disguises
  2. Build your faith and life on the sure foundation

News & Notes

Parade Float: Many hands make light work. If you can help put the church float together, please come to Bridget and Shane Joos (767 6th St) on Thursday, June 30, anytime between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

VBS: Come to the “One-of-a-Kind” Zoo for Vacation Bible School. Invite you friends and neighbors. It's for children from the age of three to those entering 6th grade. The Zoo will be open from Monday, July 11, to Friday, July 15, from 10:00am to noon. Invitations for you to share are available in the narthex. If you're willing to help out in some way, please tell Pastor Bitter.

Rely for Life Luminarias: If you are planning to purchase a luminaria for the American Cancer Society's Rely for Life event on July 15, could the VBS children decorate it for you? We would like to encourage the children this year to think about helping others in Christian love. Decorating the luminarias would give an opportunity to think about those who suffer from cancer and other illnesses. So if you were going to purchase a luminaria anyway, we'd be happy to decorate it for you. For more information or to make arrangements, please contact Bridget Joos 392-7426.

News & Notes (cont.)

Fair Booth: We want to see if we have enough volunteers for the fair booth this year. If you think you could help, please sign up on the sheet with a guess at the number of hours you could work. This is not a commitment to any specific day or time. We just want to see whose willing to help out. Sign up as soon as possible, so that we know we have enough help. If not, we may not have a booth this year. As the fair comes closer, we'll work out the specific times that fit your schedule.

Recipes: The Ladies Society is still looking for recipes for a cookbook. Please place them in the box in the narthex or email them to Gloria:

Summer Cleaning: The Ladies Society is organizing summer cleaning for the month of August. If you cannot serve as a cleaner or have limitations, please speak with Gloria as soon as possible. (This list is different than our monthly cleaning rotation. So even if you are not on the monthly rotation, please still speak with Gloria if you are unable to help out with the summer cleaning.) Also if you would like to have a certain job, please speak with her as well.
