End Times 3: Saints Triumphant
November 13, 2011
Jesus, your blood and righteousness My beauty are, my glorious dress; Mid flaming worlds, in these arrayed, With joy shall I lift up my head. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 276:1)
Saints Triumphant: What's a saint? Some say that extra-good people are saints. But saint means “holy.” Is anyone that good? Only Jesus. But God calls his people saints. Why? Not in any way because of our goodness, but rather because he counts Jesus' goodness as our record. That's what faith believes. Faith believes that Jesus takes away my sin and gives me his righteousness so that God counts believers as saints, as holy as Jesus. You, dear Christian, are a saint, not because of your efforts, but only through faith in Jesus alone.
