January 8, 2012

O Jesus, King of glory, Both David's Lord and son! Your rule endures forever; In heaven is your throne. Help that in earth's dominion, From pole to farthest pole, Your reign may spread salvation To each benighted soul. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 94:1)

God's Word

First Lesson: Isaiah 60:1-6

Jesus has shown into our darkness. Now we arise and shine out to draw others to his light.

Psalm 72

Jesus shines as our King.

Second Lesson: Ephesians 3:2-12

God's plan was hidden for ages. But with Jesus it shines out. And what is the great revelation? That Jesus brings Gentiles, like you and me, to share in his promises as heirs of God. That's the good news the Gospel proclaims.

Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12

The wise men, or Magi, are Gentiles. But they come to worship Jesus. For he is their King and Savior as well.

Matthew 2:1, 2

Recognize the Epiphany Star
