The Second Sunday of Easter

April 15, 2012

You have died for my transgressions; All my sins on you were laid, You have won for me salvation; On the cross my debt was paid. From the grave I shall arise And shall meet you in the skies. Death itself is transitory; I shall lift my head in glory. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 147:3)

The Second Sunday of Easter

God's Word

First Lesson: Acts 3:12-20

In the weeks after Pentecost, Peter heals a crippled man. He then uses the opportunity to tell the crowds about the risen Jesus and call them to repentance, so that they too may have Easter peace.

Psalm 16, p. 68

Jesus' body did not decay. He rose to bring us peace.

Second Lesson: 1 John 5:1-6

Jesus has won the victory. How his resurrection changes our lives! Through him we are reborn. As his children we love one another and obey his commands.

Gospel: John 20:19-31

On Easter evening and again a week later, Jesus appears to his disciples to drive out fear and doubt. He assures them and us that he has truly risen from the dead, so that we may have peace.

John 20:19-23

Only Jesus Brings Easter Peace

  1. Who is Jesus?
  2. What is this peace?
  3. How can I know him?

The Lord's Supper

At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of “close communion.” Therefore, we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of churches in fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions about this, please talk with the pastor.
