The Fourth Sunday of Easter
April 29, 2012
Jesus, shepherd of the sheep, Who your Father's flock does keep, Safe we wake and safe we sleep, Guarded still by you. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 436:1)
Worship Focus: The Lord's my Shepherd
Order of Worship: The Common Service, p. 15
Hymns: 436, 375, 720, 432
First Lesson: Acts 4:23-33
After they had healed a crippled man, Peter and John were arrested for preaching about Jesus. But Jesus watched over them. Upon their release, they pray to the Lord to praise him and to ask for continued courage to speak his name. We join them in their prayer.
Psalm 23, p. 72
Jesus shepherds you.
Second Lesson: 1 John 3:1, 2
Through faith in Jesus you are God's child. You are the Good Shepherd's sheep. And look at what awaits us as we follow the Good Shepherd. When he appears, we will be like him.
Gospel: John 10:11-18
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Ponder the imagery Jesus uses to bring home to us his tender care as he shepherds us through his words.
Lord's Supper: Because of confirmation, we will not celebrate the Lord's Supper next Sunday. The Lord's Supper will be on the third Sunday, May 20, as usual.
Confirmation: Our confirmands this year are Collin Brown, Ryan Gray, and Morgan Nelson. Next week they will be confirmed. May our Savior bless what they have learned and keep them in the true faith.
Council: The May council meeting has been moved to Sunday May 20 following the service, because originally it fell on Mother's Day.
To the Sunday School: We wish to extend “Thank You” to the Sunday School teachers and the children for the special Easter greetings sent us. How kind and wonderful. Many thanks! -- Les & Rosella Staples.
April ushers: David Paul (capt.), Dale Kraft, Dean Rohloff, Kerry Roth, Don Spencer
April cleaners: Kevin & Gloria Zeltwanger; Scott & Shannon Boettcher
Today's Greeters: Chuck & Lisa Nelson
