The Sixth Sunday of Easter: Mother's Day

May 13, 2012

Jesus, priceless treasure, Fount of purest pleasure, Truest friend to me. Ah, how long in anguish Shall my spirit languish, Yearning, Lord, for thee? Thou art mine, O Lamb divine! I will suffer naught to hide thee, Naught I ask beside thee. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 349:1)

The Sixth Sunday of Easter: Mother's Day

May 13, 2012

Worship Focus: This is love: God sent his Son

Order of Worship: The Common Service, p. 15

God's Word

First Lesson: Acts 11:19-26

When we know God's love in Christ, we want to share that love, just as the early Christians did.

Psalm 98, p. 103

Let all the earth praise the Lord's love.

Second Lesson: 1 John 4:1-11

How clearly John defines love! “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” How can we not respond to such love by loving one another?

Gospel: John 15:9-17

In the first part of this chapter Jesus called himself the Vine and we are the branches, who bear fruit. We heard those words last week. Today Jesus continues. We remain in his love as we obey his commands. His love that chose us leads us to love one another. For he laid down his life for us. What a friend Jesus is!

John 15:9-17

Love Each Other
Because Jesus Is Your Friend

  1. The Friend who laid down his life for you
  2. The Friend who made
the Father's plan known to you
