The Second Sunday after Pentecost

June 10, 2012

Prayer:

Shine in our hearts, O most precious Light, That we Jesus Christ may know aright, Clinging to our Savior, whose blood has bought us, Who again to our homeland has brought us. Lord, have mercy! (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 190:2)

God's Word

First Lesson: Deuteronomy 5:12-15

The Lord our God applies the Third Commandment to the life of his Old Testament people. In the Gospel today, Jesus makes it clear that the Old Testament regulations do not bind us New Testament Christians. How do we today apply the Third Commandment in our lives, so that we put into practice God's will that we receive the spiritual rest the Sabbath pictured?

Psalm 126, p. 113

Even in the hardships of life we can praise the Lord. For in the end he will turn our tears into songs of joy.

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:5-12

Our Lord shines into our hearts, and he shines out from us.

Gospel: Mark 2:23-28

Jesus brings us the true Sabbath rest, for he is Lord of the Sabbath. Let us gladly hear and learn his word of peace.

2 Corinthians 4:5-12

Our Lord's Treasure Shines Out Through Our Struggles

  1. A treasure that shatters our darkness
  2. A treasure that enlightens others
