Second Lesson: 2 Timothy 3:10-4:5
Despite suffering and persecution, Paul urges Timothy to stand firm in God's word.
Gospel: Mark 6:1-6
Jesus proclaimed God's word, but many rejected it. So also we continue to proclaim his word whether others reject it or not.
The Lord's Supper
At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of “close communion.” Communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree in all that the Bible teaches. Therefore, we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of our church body and of those churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions about this, please talk with the pastor.
Voters' Meeting: The quarterly voters meeting is after serve today. Some items on the agenda include: the General Fund deficit, going back to once-a-month communion, discontinuing the phone land-line at the church, and updating the memorial book.
Vacation Bible School: The Vacation Bible School theme is Team Jesus. We'll host the games Monday, July 23, to Friday, July 27, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Children ages three to those entering sixth grade are invited to attend. All families and members are invited to the closing ceremonies starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27. Anyone interested in helping please speak with Bridget Joos or Pastor Bitter. Invitation our available.
Outdoor Service: We're planning a joint outdoor service with St. Paul's of Morris at Pomme de Terre Park on Sunday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. Bring some lawn chairs or sit at a picnic table. After the service we'll have a potluck picnic, so bring a dish to pass.
