Prayer:

Hail, O Source of ev'ry blessing, Father of our human race! Gentiles now, your grace possessing, In your courts obtain a place. God's Word

First Lesson: Isaiah 62:1-5

Isaiah pictures our joy as followers of Jesus. We have a new name, for we were reborn into Christ. We have a crown of splendor, for Jesus reigns and we are his heirs. Because Jesus' righteousness covers us, the Lord delights in us. Jesus is our bridegroom. What joy!

Psalm 133-134, p. 115

We praise our Lord, for we are his people.

Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

The Holy Spirit gives us gifts to serve our Lord and his people.

Gospel: John 2:1-11

Jesus shows his divine power as he turns water into wine. He can certainly take care of all our needs. What a Savior he is! What joy to follow him!

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

You Are God's Gifted People

  1. You have the gift of the Holy Spirit
  2. He distributes other gifts to you as he knows best

Catechism Student Questions:

  1. What is the greatest gift the Holy Spirit gives?
  2. How do we thank him for it?
  3. Why shouldn't we expect to have the same spiritual gifts as others?
  4. To what use are we to put the Spirit's gifts?
  5. Describe the attitude we want to have as we use his gifts?

The Lord's Supper

At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of close communion. Communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree on all that the Bible teaches. So we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions, please talk with the pastor.
