The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
June 16, 2013
Lord Jesus Christ, you have prepared This feast for our salvation; It is your body and your blood, And at your invitation As weary souls, with sin oppressed, We come to you for needed rest, For comfort, and for pardon. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 312:1)
Worship Focus: God’s forgiveness changes us
Order of Worship: Service of Word and Sacrament, p. 26
Hymns: 182, 479, 475, 388
Personal Preparation for Holy Communion, p. 156
First Lesson: 2 Samuel 11:26 -- 12:10, 13-15
David had left the Lord and loved his sin more. But the Lord calls him back through the prophet Nathan and assures his repentant heart of forgiveness.
Psalm 32, p. 78
David describes how blessed it is to confess sin and find comfort in the Lord’s forgiveness.
Second Lesson: Galatians 2:11-21
Our own actions don’t justify us or bring forgiveness. Rather faith trusts that Jesus has fulfilled the law for us. So we live for him who died for us.
Gospel: Luke 7:36-50
The more we realize how great and numerous our sins are, the more our love for Jesus, who has freely brought us forgiveness, overflows in all we do.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NIV84)
Weeknight Service: If you would like to attend a weeknight service, St. Paul’s of Morris has Monday night services at 7:30pm. There will be no service on Monday, June 24.
New Member: We welcome Lynnette Carlson as a communicant member today. She has taken instruction in the Bible Information Class and is ready to confess her fellowship with us in the Christian faith. She and her husband Mike (who is a WELS member at Calvary, Glenwood) will soon be moving to Yankton, SD.
Wedding: We join Justin Nelson and his new bride, Amanda, in giving thanks to our God for uniting them together in marriage. Justin and Amanda were married in Utah on Friday, June 14. They both serve at Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, Utah. May our heavenly Father bless their life together under Christ.
Roof Reshingling: The reshingling is finished and the bill paid, but the reshingling fund has a deficit of $4355.68 as of June 1. In other words we used money from other funds to pay the bill. If you would like to still make a contribution toward the reshingling, please do so.
Flat Roof: The leak in the flat roof at the entrance has been taken care of. A covering of foam has sealed up the entire roof. It should last for many years. This was an unexpected expense. If you would like to donate toward its cost, please do so.
Flower Vase: A light cream-colored flower vase with a special lattice design was left after Les Staple’s funeral. However, we cannot find it now. If anyone knows where this beautiful vase may be, please contact Rosella Staples at 589-4255.
