The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

July 21, 2013

May God bestow on us his grace, With blessings rich provide us, And may the brightness of his face To life eternal guide us That we his saving health may know, His gracious will and pleasure, And also to the heathen show Christ’s riches without measure And unto God convert them. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 574:1)

The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

July 21, 2013

Worship Focus: Filled with God’s Word, overflow so others hear it

Order of Worship: The Common Service, p. 15

Hymns: 283, 290, 384, 573

Personal Preparation for Holy Communion, p. 156

God's Word

First Lesson: Genesis 18:1-14

God speaks his promises. Will we believe them or dismiss them as impossible?

Psalm 119a, p. 109

Take to heart God’s Word.

Second Lesson: Colossians 1:21-29

God’s Word brings us the Gospel, the Good News that Jesus has reconciled us to God. What hope to cherish and to share.

Gospel: Luke 10:38-42

Jesus’ words are what we need. They fill our hearts as they did for Mary. As his word fills us, it overflows from our mouths as we share it with others.

Colossians 1:24-29

Tell the Secret: Christ in You, the Hope of Glory

  1. Hope that joyfully suffers for Christ's body
  2. Hope that powerfully labors with God's strength

The Lord's Supper

At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of close communion. Communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree on all that the Bible teaches. So we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions, please talk with the pastor.
