God's Word

First Lesson: Genesis 6:9-22

Noah listens to God, trusting the Lord’s promise. So also as we watch, we listen to our Lord and trust his promises.

Psalm 18, p. 69

The Lord protects all who humbly watch for him.

Second Lesson Romans 13:11-14

The Apostle urges us to wake up and watch. Leave behind the way of sin and be clothed with Jesus Christ.

Gospel: Matthew 24:36-44

When Jesus comes on the Last Day to take his people home to heaven, those left behind will get no second chance. At that same time they will be swept away into hell, just as the unbelievers in Noah’s day. Since Jesus will return unexpectedly, always keep watching.

Genesis 6:9-22

Watch the Water

  1. Entrusting even the details to the Lord
    1. What details did the Lord take care of for Noah?
    2. What do we struggle with as they did in Noah’s day?
    3. What details did the Lord take care of for you when you were baptized?
  2. Working faithfully in all he gives you to do
    1. What work did the Lord give Noah to do?
    2. What’s included in the work the Lord gives us to do?
    3. What energizes us to work faithfully?

The Lord's Supper: At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of close communion. Communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree on all that the Bible teaches. So we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions, please talk with the pastor.
