The Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus, gives us the courage to put to death the evil desires of our flesh, to call on God as our dear Father, and to wait for our heavenly inheritance.

Psalm 31

Gospel John 11:17-27, 38-44

Jesus draws Martha to place all her hope in him as the Messiah. Our courage does not come from wishful dreams of a better future but from Jesus, our Savior. Trusting in him, we remain faithful even unto death, standing steadfast, even as we promised at our confirmation.

News and Notes

Lord’s Supper: This month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, April 13, and Thursday, April 17.

Midweek Service: This Wednesday the Lenten series continues with the Garden of Passion (Luke 22:39-44), as we journey From Garden to Glory. Pastor Main from Morris is our guest preacher. A Lenten supper will be served at 6:00pm.

Bridal Shower: There will be an open house bridal shower in honor of Lauren Nelson, bride-to-be of Colter Combellick on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 9 am -- 11 am at the Morris Senior Center, 603 Oregon Ave., Morris, MN. Lauren and Colter are registered at Herberger’s and Target.

Quarterly Voters’ Meeting: The first quarter voters’ meeting will be on April 13 after the service.

Holy Week: We come together to contemplate our Savior’s great love for us on Maundy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18) both services are at 7:00pm.

On Maundy Thursday we see his love that gave the Lord’s Supper to bring us his forgiveness. Filled with his love, we love others even as he loved us.

On Good Friday we witness Jesus sacrificing himself on the cross for our sins. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Easter Concert: The Great Plains Honor Choir will present a sacred concert at St. Paul’s, Morris, MN, at 4:00pm on Sunday, April 20, under the theme: Celebrate the King’s Victory.

Lenten Crosses: The season of Lent is the time when all God's people are getting ready to celebrate the mystery of Easter. When we gather here to worship, we want to take time to think about the cross and remember that Jesus died for you and me.

Few symbols in our culture are represented in as many variations as the Christian cross. It stands to reason that there would be as many different kinds of crosses as there are different kinds of people. And so again this year we will have our cross tree like we had last year.

We would like all members of the congregation to bring a cross—or more if you so desire—made out of whatever fabric, paper, or other material you desire to attach to our cross. They will all be beautiful in God’s eyes. The average size would be 8 inches long by 4 inches wide but anything is fine. Bring them anytime during Lent. Thank You.

----

Jesus, be with me and direct me;

Jesus, my plans and hopes inspire;

Jesus, from tempting thoughts protect me;

Jesus, be all my heart’s desire;

Jesus, be in my thoughts all day

And never let me fall away.
