God's Word

First Lesson: Zechariah 9:9, 10

Our King came as foretold. He came in lowliness to die for us. He came in righteousness to win the victory for us. He came to bring us peace with God as he reigns in our hearts.

Psalm 24, p. 73

Lift up your heads in joy, for your King comes to save

Second Lesson: Philippians 2:5-11

What a Savior Jesus is! He humbled himself to death on the cross and now he reigns over all. How his loving serves on our behalf enables us to serve each other with the same mindset as our Savior!

Gospel: Matthew 21:1-11

As foretold, Jesus came to Jerusalem to complete his mission to save sinners like us.

Psalm 110:7

Your Savior Pressed on

  1. Resolute in his mission
  2. Resolute in his suffering
  3. Resolute in his glory

The Lord's Supper: At St. John’s we observe the biblical practice of close communion. Communing together is an outward sign of the inner closeness of faith that seeks to agree on all that the Bible teaches. So we ask that only those commune who are confirmed members of churches which have declared fellowship with the WELS. If you have further questions, please talk with the pastor.

News and Notes

Lord’s Supper: This month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, April 13, and Thursday, April 17.

Quarterly Voters’ Meeting: The first quarter voters’ meeting will be today after the service.

Holy Week: We come together to contemplate our Savior’s great love for us on Maundy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18) both services are at 7:00pm.

On Maundy Thursday we see his love that gave the Lord’s Supper to bring us his forgiveness. Filled with his love, we love others even as he loved us.

On Good Friday we witness Jesus sacrificing himself on the cross for our sins. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Easter Concert: The Great Plains Honor Choir will present a sacred concert at St. Paul’s, Morris, MN, at 4:00pm on Sunday, April 20, under the theme: Celebrate the King’s Victory.

Lenten Crosses: The season of Lent is the time when all God's people are getting ready to celebrate the mystery of Easter. When we gather here to worship, we want to take time to think about the cross and remember that Jesus died for you and me.

Few symbols in our culture are represented in as many variations as the Christian cross. It stands to reason that there would be as many different kinds of crosses as there are different kinds of people. And so again this year we will have our cross tree like we had last year.

We would like all members of the congregation to bring a cross—or more if you so desire—made out of whatever fabric, paper, or other material you desire to attach to our cross. They will all be beautiful in God’s eyes. The average size would be 8 inches long by 4 inches wide but anything is fine. Bring them anytime during Lent. Thank You.
