Worship Focus: The message of grace spreads despite persecution

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 379, 188, 378, 384

God's Word

First Lesson: Jeremiah 20:7-13

Jeremiah had spoken God’s truth. But the religious leaders had had him beaten and put in the stocks. Yet they could not stop God’s word.

Psalm 31, p. 77

No matter what others may do to us as we spread God’s message, he is our refuge. Our times are in his hands.

Second Lesson: Romans 5:12-15

The inborn sinful self, inherited from Adam, fights against God’s grace in Christ.

Gospel: Matthew 10:24-33

Just as the world persecuted Jesus, so also it persecutes his followers. But we are under the Father’s care. So let us boldly acknowledge Jesus no matter what the world does to us.

Sermon

Romans 5:12-15

Oh, How Grace Overflows!

  1. Grace overflowed to all over whom death reigned
  2. Grace overflowed only from the one man, Jesus Christ
