The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

August 3, 2014

To your temple I draw near; Lord, I love to worship here. Here are sacrament and Word; Here believers meet their Lord. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 226:1)

The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Worship Focus: God’s word works

Order of Worship: The Common Service, p. 15

Hymns: 255, 324, 283, 322

Personal Preparation for Holy Communion, p. 156

God's Word

First Lesson: Isaiah 55:10,11

Like rain watering the earth, God’s word accomplishes his purpose.

Psalm 65, p. 89

Praise the Lord for streams of living water.

Second Lesson: Romans 8:18-25

God’s word brings us eternal life. So our present suffering isn’t worth comparing to the future glory.

Gospel: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

Jesus illustrates the different results that his word produces.

Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

God’s Word Produces a Harvest.
So Welcome It with Understanding.

Lord’s Supper: The Bible tells us that those who take Communion together are to:

1. Recognize that Christ’s true body and blood are
present in the Sacrament (1 Cor. 11:29),

2. Examine themselves (1 Cor. 11:28), and

3. Be united in faith with the congregation with
which they commune (1 Cor. 10:17).

For these reasons, it is our practice that only those who are members of our congregation or a congregation of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) join us for Holy Communion. If you are interested in learning more about becoming part of our fellowship, please speak to the pastor after the service.
