January 25, 2015

Worship Focus: Jesus calls us to go fishing

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: Hymn Sing, 85, 770, 560:1-3

God's Word

First Lesson: Jonah 3:1-5, 10

How reluctant Jonah was to preach God’s word in Nineveh! How much he wanted to see that city punished! But although Jonah had a wrong heart, the Lord used the message to change the hearts of the people in Nineveh. They turned from their evil ways. If God could use Jonah to share his word, he can use even us.

Psalm 62, p. 88

Trust in the Lord as you share his word.

Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

This world is passing away. We have the only message that saves. Share the Good News as you cast the net.

Gospel: Mark 1:14-20

Jesus calls his disciples to fish for people.

Mark 1:14-20

News and Notes

Sunday school: The Sunday school is planning an all-in-one Sunday school on Feb. 15. This includes people of all ages. Stay tune for more details and consider how you could participate.

Cookbook: Some of the St. Johns ladies are organizing a church cookbook. Some recipes have been submitted previously and do not need to be submitted again. We are asking for more recipes from those who did not originally submit any or for those who would like to submit additional recipes.

Please send by email or give individually to either Karen Hoffman (gerald_karen_hoffman@hotmail.com) or Mona Roth (jkr1952@gmail.com).

We are asking that all recipes be turned in by Feb. 15.

A meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, after church to organize the cookbook. All interested ladies are invited to attend. A light lunch will be served.

Parsonage Windows: The voters decided to replace the rest of the parsonage windows for a cost of about $7300. This includes material and labors for two double windows, four individual windows, and one picture window. They felt that this was a good price and would be cheaper to finish them all rather than do it piecemeal over the next several years.

There is currently about $3000 available in the Maintenance Fund and the undesignated Memorial Fund. Please consider making a special offering to help cover the remainder of the cost.

January Ushers: Doug Nelson (capt.), Jason Brown, Collin Brown, Cody Greiner, Seth Nelson, Delroy Thielke
