The Second Sunday of Easter

April 12, 2015

Prayer:

Plenteous grace with thee is found, Grace to cover all my sins. Let the healing streams abound; Make and keep me pure within. Thou of life the fountain art; freely let me take of thee. Spring thou up within my heart; Rise to all eternity. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 357:4)

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

God's Word

First Lesson: Acts 3:12-20

A few months after Jesus’ resurrection, Peter and John met a crippled man at the temple. They healed him in the name of Jesus. A crowd gathered to see what had happened. Peter preached to them about Jesus.

Psalm 16, p. 68

God did not abandon Jesus to the grave, but raised him from the dead. His resurrection drives out our doubts.

Second Lesson: 1 John 5:1-6

Through faith in Jesus we overcome the world.

Gospel: John 20:19-31

Jesus drives out the doubts of the disciples and of Thomas and entrusts to them and us the message of forgiveness in him.

Sermon: Acts 3:14, 15, 18, 19

Cookbook Meeting: All ladies are invited to meet after the service today to work on the cookbook. The agenda will include: 1) review the formatted recipes and make any changes; 2) look over additional recipes; 3) address a binding for the cookbook; 4) make a decision on which day is best to work on projects; 5) review any helpful hints or quotes.

Medical Fund Raising Benefit: A fund raising benefit will be held at the Covenant Church in Alexandria for Hailey Hoffman from 4:00-8:00pm on April 18.

Hailey is the granddaughter of Gerald and Karen Hoffman and Clarence and Doris Lanus. She is 12 years old and is suffering from a right brain shut down caused by a past car accident. Hailey has had leakage of spinal fluid into the brain which was punctured by a vertebrae. She cannot have surgery to repair this problem until she has had lengthy treatment of biofeedback. She needs to be awake for the surgery so that the correct part of the brain can be repaired.

Any cash donations or any items for the silent auction would be greatly appreciated. Leave any donations with Pastor and arrangements will be made to pick them up prior to the benefit. Please see the flyer that is posted in the narthex and keep Hailey in your prayers.
