The Fourth Sunday of Easter

April 26, 2015

Worship Focus: The Good Shepherd lays down his life

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 432, 375, 436, 360

God's Word

First Lesson: Acts 4:23-33

Follow the Shepherd even when the world rages against you. Peter and John had healed a crippled in Jesus’ name. They had preached in the temple court calling the people to repentance and forgiveness in Jesus. They had been arrested and accused before the Jewish ruling council. Now they give thanks to God for all of that. We too follow the Shepherd trusting him to lead us on.

Psalm 23, see sheet for hymn 766.

The Lord is my Shepherd

Second Lesson: 1 John 3:1, 2

In baptism we were reborn as children of God, reborn as lambs into his flock. We journey through this dark world, following our Shepherd until he leads us safely home.

Gospel: John 10:11-18

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, laid down his life for the sheep and has taken it up again. Follow him.

Sermon: Acts 20:28-32

How Precious Is God’s Flock!

  1. Purchased by his blood
  2. Protected by his word

Acts 20:28-32:

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (NIV84)

Anyone who is interested in purchasing cookbooks can also place their requests in Karen Hoffman's box.

Our next date has not been set, but we need helpers to help assemble the cookbook, and this meeting will take some time.
