The Third Sunday after Pentecost

June 14, 2015

Prayer:

O gracious Holy Spirit, My comforter and guide, Grant that in Jesus’ merit I always may confide, Him to the end confessing Whom I have known by faith. Give me your constant blessing And grant a Christian death. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 596:3)

Worship Focus: Jesus conquers Satan

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 579, 596, 753:1-5, 753:6

God's Word

First Lesson: Genesis 3:8-15

Adam and Eve trusted Satan and turned their backs on God’s love. But the Lord sought them out. What grace! He calls out to them, “Where are you?” They had left God, but he brought them back and promised the Savior to crush Satan’s power.

Psalm 51a, 86

Where were we? We were lost in sin. But God’s mercy washes away us clean.

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:13-18

No matter what we are going through. Jesus is greater. Faith believes this and therefore speaks out, confessing Jesus’ saving name.

Gospel: Mark 3:20-35

Satan is like a strong man, but Jesus is stronger. He has tied Satan up. So listen to his word, which changes our hearts, so that we gladly do God’s will. For through faith in Jesus you are his brother and sister.

2 Corinthians 4:13-18

Faith Speaks Out through Adversity

  1. Spreading God’s grace
  2. Focusing on the unseen glory

News and Notes

Delegate Meeting: Duane Hausmann and Pastor Bitter attended the Crow River Conference delegate meeting at St. Paul’s, Morris, last Tuesday. The conference opened with a devotion reminding us that we often cannot see the Lord’s goodness behind his providence. Under God’s providential care we still experience suffering and setbacks. But the Lord’s promises reveal his true goodness: his grace, mercy, and love. So we judge God by his promises not by his providence.

We heard reports on the work of the synod over the past two years and items that will come up for discussion at the synod convention in July, as they plan for the next two years. We also were able to offer our input and opinions.

The meeting also included a Bible study on the body of Christ and a closing devotion.

Vacation Bible School: Invite your friends and tell your neighbors. VBS this year is July 6-10 from 10:00am to Noon for 3-year olds up to those entering 5th grade next Fall. The theme is: Tasty Treats. How wonderfully the Lord feeds our bodies and souls!
