Worship Focus: The Holy Spirit makes our faith grow

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 255, 188, 431, 417

God's Word

First Lesson: Ezekiel 17:22-24

God does the impossible. He sent his eternal Son as a tender baby to be our almighty Savior. By the shame of the cross Jesus secured the glory of heaven for all who believe. So also, God brings down the tall trees of this world, who rely on their own effort. And in the end his children will flourish, no matter how low or dry our life now is.

Psalm 92, p. 101

How profound the Lord is! Yes, the wicked may flourish for a time, but their end is near. The Lord’s people will flourish forever in the courts of God.

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

As we long for heaven, we boldly serve our God in the hear and now.

Gospel: Mark 4:26-34

As the growth of a seed in the ground is hidden from the farmer, so also God’s working in hearts through his word is hidden from our sight. But don’t doubt the power of the seed of God’s Word to produce life, eternal life.

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

Keep Walking Heavenward by Faith

  2. Courageous to do what pleases God

News and Notes

Council Meeting: On June 14 the council discussed reinstalling the communion rail and residing part of the church’s south side. When we’re ready to do the residing, the electric company will disconnect the lines from the church. The trustees plan to (and have now finished) replacing the sink, faucet, and water filtering system on the west side of the church kitchen. Items for the quarterly voters meeting on July 12 after the service include 1) helping St. Paul’s with a fair booth and splitting the costs, 2) setting the Fall schedule, and 3) possibly acting on a retirement savings plan for Pastor Bitter that would be cost neutral to the congregation.

Cookbook: A cookbook meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 27 at 1:30pm at the church. This meeting will place recipes into eight categories. In addition, family histories or family write-ups will be placed with recipes that have been submitted. All ladies are invited to attend.

The deadline for submitting recipes and family write-ups is Sunday, July 12. Please give recipes and family write-ups to Mona Roth. This is our last call if anyone else wants to be included in this special cookbook. The write-ups do not have to be long but we want everyone to have a part.

Our goal is to have a sample printing by September so that the books can be ready for sale in November. Thank you to all who have contributed recipes and/or family write-ups.

Vacation Bible School: Invite your friends and tell your neighbors. VBS this year is July 6-10 from 10:00am to Noon for 3-year olds up to those entering 5th grade next Fall. The theme is: Tasty Treats. How wonderfully the Lord feeds our bodies and souls!
