The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 12, 2015

Prayer:

Lord, your words are waters living Where I quench my thirsty needs. Lord, your words are bread life-giving; On your words my spirit feeds. Lord, your words will be my light Through death’s cold and dreary night; Yes, they are my sword prevailing And my cup of joy unfailing. (Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal 283:3)

Worship Focus:

Order of Worship: Service of the Word, p. 38

Hymns: 283, 536, 770, 281

God's Word

First Lesson: Ezekiel 2:1-5

Sharing God’s Word will not always bring pleasant results, even when we’re sharing that word with people who should be gladly hearing and learning it.

Psalm 143, p. 118

Call on the Lord for strength to speak his word.

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

Paul’s thorn in the flesh seemed to hamper his work of spreading the Gospel. But the Lord did not take it away. For through weakness we learn to rely on the Lord, rather than on our own strength.

Gospel: Mark 6:1-6

Those who knew Jesus best should have been the first to listen to him. But they refuse to believe that he is the Messiah. So great is their unbelief that very few even bring their sick to him so that he could heal them.

Ezekiel 2:1-5

Stand Firm As You Share God’s Word

News and Notes

Quarterly Voters Meeting: The quarterly voters meeting is scheduled for July 12 after the service. Some items on the agenda include setting the Fall schedule and participating in the fair booth with St. Paul’s at the Stevens County Fair.

Two additional items include: 1) discussion and possible adoption of the “Statement on Marriage and Marriage Policies for WELS Congregations,” which was included in last week’s bulletin, and 2) participation in the Shepherd Plan. The Shepherd Plan is a 403b compliant retirement saving plans that would allow the pastor to set aside pre-tax money for retirement. It’s sort of like a 401k but for charitable organizations rather than businesses. There would be no additional costs to the congregation. If you would like more information about the Shepherd Plan before the meeting, please speak with Pastor Bitter.

Vacation Bible School: What a great time at VBS this year! We fed our souls with God’s Word and fed our bodies with tasty treats. Twenty-six children were enrolled with an average attendance of twenty-four.

Thank you to Bridget Joos for planning and organizing crafts and for general supervision. Thanks you to our teachers: Abigail Bitter, Bryn Brown, Gideon Joos, Peyton Rohloff, and Preston Rohloff. Thank you to all who brought treats and invited others to come.

Cookbook: A cookbook meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 27 at 1:30pm at the church. This meeting will place recipes into eight categories. In addition, family histories or family write-ups will be placed with recipes that have been submitted. All ladies are invited to attend.

The deadline for submitting recipes and family write-ups is today, Sunday, July 12. Please give recipes and family write-ups to Mona Roth. This is our last call if anyone else wants to be included in this special cookbook. The write-ups do not have to be long but we want everyone to have a part.

Our goal is to have a sample printing by September so that the books can be ready for sale in November. Thank you to all who have contributed recipes and/or family write-ups.

Vacation: Pastor Bitter will be on vacation July 13-17. If you need pastoral help during this time, please call Pastor Main (320-589-4662)

Installation: You are invited to joining our sister congregation in welcoming their new pastor. Mark Kahrs will be ordained as a Christian minister and installed as pastor at Calvary Lutheran Church in Glenwood in a 3:00pm service on Sunday, July 19.

Outdoor Service: Our annual joint outdoor service with St. Paul’s is 10:30am July 26 at Pomme de Terre Park. A potluck picnic will follow, organized by our Christian Service Committee.

July Ushers: Doug Nelson (capt.), Jason Brown, Collin Brown, Cody Greiner, Delroy Thielke

July Cleaners: Dave & Phyllis Joos, Gerald & Karen Hoffman

Today’s Greeters: Chad & Mackensie Rohloff
